Location Directive Action: Consolidation - For Empty Locations With Incoming Work

Hi all,

I observed a missing feature in the new WHS. Maybe you guys had that problem before and know a work around.

For Purchase Put-away I have a 3-tier strategy.

1) Consolidate 2) Find empy Location 3) If no location is found, leave it where it is.

Imagine I have Products A, B and C. They are all the same.

And Locations 1, 2, 3 and 4

When Location 1 contains items but they cannot be consolidated with A and Locations 2 to 5 are empty, the location directive strategy "Consolidate" fails and "Empty Locations with no incoming work" follows. Here it finds Location 2 and creates a work line for putting A into 2.- That is correct!

Now comes the tricky part. AX runs the same logic again for B. It tries to consolidate with location 1 and fails - that is perfect. But then it is not trying to consolidate item B with location 2. Why?! ABC can all be put in the same location. But it seems like "Consolidation" is checking only for physical available inventory. After failing consolidation in 1 it wants to find an empty bin and fails in 2, because of "incoming work". Thus, it finds location 3. Finally C goes in location 4.

If consolidation would check for incoming work, all three items (ABC) would be stored in location 2.

Fun fact. If an identical item is already in location 2, the consolidation works perfect and ABC are all consolidated in location 2.

Can I force the consolidation strategy to look on reserved items? Otherwise the directive is wasting my storage...

I am having this issue. The main issue is strategy of "None" is leading to very long location selection processes that are killing my efficiency on the floor. I use Single and Double Deep racking and so the issue is that I'm only sending one pallet to the Double Deep locations, setting that pallet in an inbound P&D location with a sit down forklift, and doing the final put with a standup lift. So that whole time before it's put away, it's "incoming work" and blocks a second pallet from also locating here.

I'd already determined that consolidate is only working when there is actually physical inventory present (which I don't really agree with the terminology here) and the reason multiple pallets locate to a single (multi pallet) location is based on the stocking limits settings. I need to be able to create work on all pallets on an inbound load and have the work go to the locations in the rack that are empty, but also send as many pallets as the stocking limit allows. The "with no incoming work" is blocking the full utilization of my multi pallet locations, but it has taken the 30 seconds long location selection process down to about 1-2 seconds.

This needs to be addressed ASAP!
