Manual entry description field reverts to table entry only for no reason

We are experiencing a recurring issue whereby the description field in the AR receipt journal 'Enter Customer Payments' which is free text entry suddenly refuses to allow free text entry and will only allow selection from a table. As the description field is different for every payment, populating the table is not an option.

Clearing usage data does not alleviate the issue and we currently have to completely remove the user and re-import them to correct the issue.

Please help :-)

Can you share Application and Kernel Version of specific Rich Client?

We are using AX 2012 R2 CU1.

Kernel version - 6.2.1000.710

Application version - 6.2.1000.156

I see, so you are using high kernel version than application, which is fine.

well, I have seen this issue in cases where application vs. kernel versions are mismatching.

specifically for case of AX2012R2CU7 as sometimes one forget to apply upgrade on kernel.

For your case I cannot say anything more, as your kernel version is already higher. Might be you will also face issue into payment journal lines. not only on 'Enter Customer Payments'

I mean when you will proceed into lines of journal, may be you will face same error message.

Hi Simon,

I have seen a similar question on this forum before. Can you indicate if it only happens with this payment journal or is it on all journals?

The error is consistently re-occurring on the Accounts Receivable receipt journal 'Enter Customer Payments' description field.

Unfortunately the error is sporadic. System will be fine for days and then throw this issue all of a sudden. Error can happen in journal lines too but hasn't for a while. Deleting and re-importing the user did not fix the issue this time. I really need to know what causes this or where the setting that decides a description field is manual entry or table entry is.

Hi Simon,

You can try to update the kernel to the latest version for AX 2012 R2. As Sohaib mentioned he had seen it in CU7, try to use a kernel which is more recent.

Hi Andre. Unfortunately all development work on this program has been ceased and this forum is my only support arrangement....so updating Kernels is not an option.

What I really need is to understand what is causing this field to revert away from manual entry. Is there a setting that dictates whether a field is manual entry or table entry?

Hi Simon,

There is no setting for this field. There is a relation with standard texts which should not be validated.

If you are not using standard transaction texts you can also consider deleting this relation, but that is also development.

Personally I don't see updating kernels as development. It is only about updating executables like installing Windows updates.

But for sure the bew kernel should be tested in a separate environment first.
