PBI API connection on the fly define read-access

Posted on by 2,437
Hi All
Has anyone connected power BI to BC API/Web Service using below where data access intent is defined for the report but the API itself can have read write access

Dynamics365BusinessCentral.ApiContentsWithOptions(null, null, null, [UseReadOnlyReplica = true])

The intent is to create generic API that has CRUD but on the PBI access set the data access intent so the query goes to a read-only replica

Yes, you can connect Power BI to Business Central API/Web Service using the Dynamics365BusinessCentral.ApiContentsWithOptions function with the UseReadOnlyReplica option set to true. This allows you to define the data access intent for the report as read-only while still enabling the API to have read-write access. The goal is to create a generic API with CRUD capabilities, while ensuring that queries from Power BI are directed to a read-only replica for data access.

Yes, it is possible to connect Power BI to Dynamics 365 Business Central API/Web Service using the method you mentioned. By specifying [UseReadOnlyReplica = true], you're indicating that the intent for data access is read-only, while the API itself can have read-write access. This allows for creating a generic API that supports CRUD operations, while ensuring that queries made from Power BI access a read-only replica, thus preserving data integrity and performance.

Yes, it's possible to connect Power BI to Dynamics 365 Business Central (BC) API/Web Service using the specified parameters. By setting the "UseReadOnlyReplica" parameter to true, you can direct queries to a read-only replica of the data, ensuring that the data access intent is defined for the report. This allows for a flexible approach where the API itself can have read-write access, while Power BI accesses a read-only replica for reporting purposes.
