Hi,

The conditions to edit an EDT string size are as follow:

But what does "String Size Is Extensible" property do exactly?

i created a parent EDT with "String Size Is Extensible" as No
then i created a new EDT that extends the parent EDT, it's "String Size Is Extensible" was set to Auto and not No

But when I created a parent EDT with "String Size Is Extensible" as Yes
then i created a new EDT that extends the parent EDT, it's "String Size Is Extensible" was set to Yes and not Auto as what happened when it was No

but still i don't know the benefit of String Size Is Extensible? what does it do?

    Hi,

In case e.g. Microsoft set the property to no in a standard model, then it is not possible to extend the string size in an extension for the StringEDT itself or a child EDT.

Do you mean it's only for Microsoft?

Because as I said, i created a parent EDT in model A with 'String Size is extensible' as No.

then when i created an extension of this EDT in Model B, i was able to change the size normally

and in general when we  create another EDT  that extends the parent EDT, the string size is always not editable regardless of this property

    Hi ..,

I thought I replied to your follow-up question before. Either it was flagged or I didn't click correctly on the post button.
I tried creating two models and set the property to No on a new base string. In the extension model it is not respecting the property as I expect it should not be possible to extend the string size. This is like your observation.

I don't know which string types from Microsoft are set to be not extensible out of the box. So, I don't know if the behavior is different when extending standard string objects.
