Quality inspection :Better to do before GRN or after GRN?

Dear Experts,

Can you please tell me when can we do quality inspection:Before GRN or after GRN.

Please explain me the affects of doing inspection before and after GRN.

Regarding the rejection of materials also need some clarification.

Also what are the possibilities of doing insepction after GRN?

Hi Seenu,

What do you mean with GRN? Goods receiving? If so, are you looking for information related to do a quality check before/after entering an arrival journal or posting the receipt list?

What agreements do you have with the vendors on being able to report defects?

Dear Andre,

Thanks for your kind reply. yes i am speaking about goods receiving only.After goods arrived to warehouse which way is better to do quality inspection .Before posting product receipt or after doing product receipt. IF so why we do such thing? As of now no agreement with vendors regarding defects

Hi Seenu,

I would prefer to do it before the receipt. This would give the option to hold invoices if you are using three-way matching. Also the inventory would not be available. In fact I consider posting the product receipt, as owning or being responsible for the goods.

If you have signed the vendors delivery note (POD) then you have accepted receipt even if you have not accepted the quality -so you are the legal custodian and you also need to ensure such goods are covered by your insurance so they need to be in the system.

So register the items , and then everyone will know they have arrived.

Now do your QA and decide their disposition.
