SMTP configuration in D365F&O to limit the authorised list of request location

Hi,

One of our customer wants to configure SMTP for Dynamics 365 F&O to limit the authorised list of request locations. Is that possible. If so can you kindly let me know the way to achieve the same?

Can you explain a bit more about your requirement ?, Because there are no restrictions or Rule you can apply from D365FO for Outbound mail notifications. Once you configured SMTP settings it will send emails (as you configured) from the system. if you need to apply any rule or restrictions you have to do it via your mail server or the Service.

Hi Amith

Customer use a 3^rd party to manage their SMTP instance. The 3^rd Party has requested information from the environments that will need to send email.

Typically, when you configure security on a SMTP server, you specify the IP Addresses of the servers that need to send email. In the case of Dynamics AX, this typically would have been the AOS Servers, certainly for a batch process.

I have also read suggestions online that state you would need to add an IP address range for all servers in an Azure Data Centre, as was published by Microsoft in the following article:

The customer wants to understand the options available to configure D365 Finance and Operations with SMTP and be able to configure SMTP to limit the authorised list of request locations.

But I believe there is not such option to do that from F&O

Limiting the authorized list of request locations is part of your email server configuration, not D365FO configuration. D365FO is just a "location" that sends requests to the SMTP server.

As you have found out, there's no single guaranteed public IP for the D365FO system, instead you need to whitelist the Azure datacenter address range.
