Making Fields mandatory in NAV

Posted on by 5,124

Hello all! I thought I read before in Nav 2013 that users can make fields mandatory without involving developers.  I am not sure if this is true or perhaps I was reading a different link.

In any case, can a user make fields mandatory at will?  E.g., if in customer card, they want to make Customer Name mandatory, can they do so without us, developers having to modify the Customer card by setting the NOTBLANK property to TRUE?

Please advise.  In a way, it would be great if they can do it.

    Hi,

I don't think there is any setup to make a field mandatory.  You need to customize the program.

Plus, the "mentioned Mandatory field" functionality in NAV 2015 still requires a developer to perform the changes on the table.

In Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2015 version there is a property call Show Mandatory, that only display a asterisk mark in the field and will not do any validation. That means users still can skip it and go ahead.

This only available in the 2015 version and not in the 2013 version. Plus I am not aware of any such feature available in Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2013 or any other version.

Yes there is a new property in 2015 on a page field called ShowMandatory but that has no control over the field it just displays an asterisk to identify which fields are mandatory and does not have any code behind to stop users.

I am not aware of any feature in 2013 which will let users define which fields are mandatory unless you create a customization like change log setup where users can define which are mandatory or not and you can control that in Application Management codeunit. Just an idea.
