Customer Keyword search

I'm having problems with the 'Keyword search' and the 'Search name' fields/functionality in AX7.  The Keyword search has its own configuration [Search parameters -> Define criteria -> Customer] and one of the places it works from is the Customer service form.

I first tried the Keyword search with a value that I had put in the Search name field of a Customer record.  The Customer service -> Keyword search did not return any results.

I then looked to see if I could add the Search name field to the 'Define criteria' configuration - I don't think you can.

I then tried putting some data in the Organisation number field on the Customer record and then adding this field to the 'Define criteria' configuration and 'Refreshed' the search.

Nothing in the above would allow me to find my Customer via the Keyword search.

It would appear that the Search name field is redundant in terms of the Keyword search and that the Keyword search doesn't work properly with the fields contained in the 'Define criteria' configuration.

Does anyone have any experience or advice on this topic please?

There's a job you need to run (and which I imagine you would want to schedule to run periodically in batch) to update the search index. You can open it from one of the Setup forms that you've been using. Until you've run it at least once, it won't find any results at all.

It's described at Step 4. here:

    Hi Guy

Thanks for that, but it appears not to work.  That is the 'Refresh' I refer to in my original post.  I've also check the table [MCRCustomerSearchView] and the [OrgId] field that I have data in for a customer is not updated in this table.  I guess the Batch job might not be working correctly in AX7.

Any ideas about the 'Search name' field on the Customer record and where this is used or if it is supposed to be included as part of the Keyword search functionality?

OK. Now I have AX 7 in front of me... You're right that 'Search name' is not a field you can add to the search criteria. The field you want is DirPartyTable.NameAlias. It would not be too difficult to add it to MCRCustomerSearchView if you wanted it, but you'd want to get someone familiar with AX development to do it.

You're also right that OrgId doesn't appear to do what you want. I think the explanation is that OrgId in the Search comes from CustTable.OrgId, but 'Organisation name' on the Customer form comes from DirOrganization.OrgNumber. OrgId in the Search is actually 'National Registry number' on the Customer form, and this field is only visible on the customer form for Country 'IS' (which I think is Iceland, or possibly Israel). I can't believe this is the true intention, but that's how it's working (and I expect it has been like this since before Microsoft bought that code off of Junction Solutions)!

Despite these two examples, I think the Keyword search function does work well on other fields, like Customer Name, Street, City, Zip Code.

I'm actually struggling to find an example where 'Search' name is used, since everywhere I look that I can see a list of customers, I find that I am able to search on Customer name, and Search name is not shown at all.

Thanks Guy, it's as I suspected and agree on the modification option.
