Pick List Printing to Multiple Warehouse Locations

Our company recently converted to AX 2012. One of the major areas we need to enhance is the ability to automate the printing of pick lists. This should not be something the user is required to change on each order. Based on the warehouse specified on each order the picking list will be directed via a print job to the appropriate printer designated for each specific warehouse. Basically a hand-off approach to distibuting picking lists using AX standard functionality or some third party application.

Does anyone utilize or know of a good solution to achieve this result?

Thanks.

Hi - you should be able to use 'Print management' to do this. One problem you may hit though is that picking lists are split by Site, but can have more than one Warehouse. I've always thought that was a bit odd.

Tim - Thanks for the guidance. I looked around and cannot find the print management setup area. Can you point me in the right direction? Thanks!

Tim - I was able to find the print management area within AX. However, I cannot seem to setup multiple print locations for each site. If I can get a picking list to print to specific sites within AX I think that would work but can't seem to figure it out. If you could point me in the right direction that would be great. Thanks.

Inventory and warehouse management > Setup > Inventory and warehouse parameters > Print management. Click on the Print management button. You should see a tree. Module - Inventory management > Documents > Picking list > Original <Default>. Right-click on Original <Default> then 'New'. A new tree node is created (Setting - Setting 1). Edit description. Then click on 'Select' button and setup a filter query. Default selection offers Picking route.Print Site field to filter on. Set Print site criteria. Click OK. Click on small arrow to right of Destination. Select printer setup and define printer destination.

You can setup purchase order and sales documents in the same way (e.g Sales and marketing > Setup > Forms setup).

When you post the picking list, remember to select 'Use print management destination'.

    Good luck!

Tim - This was exactly what I needed. Thank you!

One last question. It doesn't seem to allow me to use the warehouse as criteria for the print destination - only the site. Is that right? It would be great if I could do a combination of both. Let me know.

Try setting up a batch job to process pick lists for each warehouse.

    1. Go to Sales & Marketing, Periodic, Release Sales Update, Picking List
    2. Enter the defaults.
    3. Click on Select, set up your selection criteria. (ie: WHSE, Site, Order type = Sales Order etc.)
    4. Click on the Batch
    5. Set up your batch processing file with a unique name
    6. Click on Recurrence to set the timing of when to print out the picks

Repeat the same process until all sites and/or warehouses are set up for sales orders and transfer orders

If you need to make changes or stop the batch job, go to System Administration, Inquiry, Batch Jobs, Batch Jobs.

Use Print Management to set the default printer for each batch job.
