Warehouse items form

Hi,

I need to know what is the function of "Warehouse items." For what I have been reading, it is possible to assign a Warehouse and Default receipt and issue locations. I see it is possible to assign a Picking location, as well.

So, my question is:

When I indicate a Picking location in the Warehouse items form, does it mean that every time I want to sell the item, AX will try to select stock from this specific location? Is this location filled automatically from a bulk location, or do I need to transfer stock to the Picking location?

Thanks

If you're using Inventory management Shipments and functionality known as Consolidated picking (which is enabled with the WMSII configuration key), you can use a Shipment reservation combination to define how inventory should be reserved to shipments. Typically, the shipment reservation combination is configured to use the Item's picking location first. This is the location you set on the Warehouse items form.

Again, if you are using WMSII, AX can automatically create 'Pallet transports' to replenish picking locations.

Hi - I see that you tagged your question with AX 2012 R3. The Warehouse items setup with respect to a Picking location relates to the [old] WMII functionality. If you're on R3 you should be looking at the new WMS/WHS system, and that doesn't use Warehouse items setup in the same way - I'm not absolutely certain but I think WMS doesn't use the Warehouse items setup at all - but it would be used if you have non-WMS warehouse and you use counting journals. The system logs whether an item in a warehouse is on an open counting journal on the Warehouse items record for that warehouse - if there isn't a Warehouse items record for that warehouse it'll use the generic record with the blank warehouse - so I've often felt that (for counting) you need a Warehouse items record for each warehouse that an item is held in stock in.
