Cycle Count

Good morning everyone,

I am having some issues understanding how NAV calculates the range of dates for the next counting period in th eitem card.

I did the following:

1. Create a Phys. Inventory Counting Period with a counting frequency of 720 times per year. This is for items that are counted twice a day.

2. Assign the Phys. Inventory Counting Period code to the item XXX in the item card. The next counting start date is 09/21/2015 and the next counting ending date is also 09/21/2015.

3. Went to Phys. Inventory Journal and clicked on Calculate Counting Period.

4. Selected the item XXX from the list.

5. Posted a quantity adjustment.

6. Went back to the item card and noticed that the Next Counting Starting date and the next counting end date is the same 09/21/2015... Which is fine because I want to count this item twice a day.

7. Went back to the Phys. Inventory Journal and selected Calculate Counting Period and the item is no longer available to be counted.

I also imported a group of items (using rapidstart services) that should be counted once a year. This items didn't show on the Phys. Inventory Item selection either... I went to the item card and noticed that the Next Counting Starting and Ending dates are both blank.

Am I missing anything here?

    Maria,

When you import items using rapid start service make sure you validate the  Phys. Inventory Counting period code field on the item because that calculates next counting dates and create entry into the phys. inventory item selection.

    Hi Suresh,

    I will try your suggestion.

As for the example of the item XXX which I have created manually, what explanation do you find there? Why isn´t showing in the phys. inventory item selection to perfomr the second counting of the day?

    Let me rephrase the question:

What conditions should be met in order for an item to be shown on the Phys. Inventory Item Selection?

To be honest i don't have much real time knowledge about counting period, but i did review the code and i will try my best to explain when a record is inserted into the phys. inventory item selection

When you choose calculating period it will find all the items with next counting start date and end date, and if the Last Counting Period Update on the item is less than Next Counting Start Date and Today's date is greater than Next Counting Start Date and Today's Date is less than Next Counting End Date then it will create a record in the Phys. Inventory Item Selection.

Hi Suresh, thank you for getting back to me.

Indeed the reason why my item is not shown for the second counting of the day is because of the Last Counting Period Update. If the Last Counting Period Date=Next Counting Start Date then the conditions are not met.

This means that according to the code an item can be counted a maximum of 1 time a day and no more. Is this a bug?

I am curious. Can't an item be counted twice or three times a day if it's required?

    Hello,
I am suspicious of setting counting periods of more than one counting per day because, we have a setup by dates, and everything that is set less than one counting per day maybe could not work because of filters in the base code. I never tried to count phys. inventory less than one counting per day.

But I have another question about this process.
After you have set up the starting and ending counting date for one item, and you run Calculate Counting Period on Phys. Inventory Journal for one item, do your values in Qty. (Phys. Inventory) are correct based on the starting and ending date on the item card?

Every time that I ran the Calculate Counting Period my quantities were incorrect based on the Item Ledger Entries. This function calculates all item quantities no matter what starting and ending date is defined. I tried to manipulate filtering quantities with the Work Date defined for my user, based on the Posting Date on the request page of action, but I did not have success.

EDIT:  I did not see that this is the question from 2015 :D . Anyway, the process is still incorrect.

Thanks for the answer in advance,
    Greetings
