APPCRASH Error when attempting to start service

Hi,

An year or 2 before, business decided to decommission our NAV application. During the process, the entire DB (as .fdb file)  got archived and the Navision application files also got archived in a server.

Now for Audit purpose, we wanted to retrieve the data that got archived. To do this, we had to bring back the application into working. As we had all application related setup files also archived, we thought of starting the service from them. But we are getting 'APPCRASH' error by doing so.

Now we need some help on how to resolve this error. Or atleast if there is a someway to retrieve the data and convert into more conventional format like Excel or something, it should help.

please check the windows event log for a more detailed error message.

the (old) nav setup is probably corrupt.

so download the same nav version (build no.) from e.g. http://dynamicsuser.net/media/

install then nav or run it directly using the client fin.exe. then open the fdb file.

    Hi,

Do you have the NAV installed?

Since it is an .fdb file the only option we have is to open that file using navision application, try to backup the .fdb file first then download Navision 5.1 and open the file with that application instead what you have installed. I am assuming what you have is an old installation something might have corrupted. You can check event viewer for more details.

Download the same exact version of Dynamics NAV and install it on a fresh computer and try to open the .fdb file. There are some situations that latest windows updates does not support older versions of Dynamics NAV. Therefore it would be good if you can install a older version of windows and try it.

You don't need to install the NAV server side. Just install the client, or run directly the fin.exe and open the .fdb.

    Good luck!
