Select the level of dimension value to display

Hi there!,

We are using AX 2012 R3 CU10. I want to set some dimension values of entity "Department" to company specific not shared. I selected the value "company" in the field "Select the level of dimension value to display" in dimension value form and added the specific company to apply the dimension value to. But the issue is when I close the dimension value form and open again the value that I selected "Company" in the "Select the level of dimension value to display" is showing back to "shared". And all the dimension values of Department are showing in all legal entities because of this issue.

Can anyone help me to resolve this issue ?

    Hi André Arnaud de Calavon

can you share the details for Data Validation Framework (where it is e.g. possible to restrict this via rules setup). we have similar requirement to restrict the dimension at master level.

    Regards

    Hi Khalidthaha8,

In that case you might need a customization where you should know that the controls on master forms are dynamically build. You can have a look at eXtensible Data Security (XDS).

We have developed an add-on Data Validation Framework where it is e.g. possible to restrict this via rules setup. This would prevent saving the wrong values on master data. Also you can set individual dimension fields to be mandatory.

    Hi Andre,

    Thanks for your reply.

Filtering company specific dimension value by creating two different accounting structures and advanced rules have already been set and assigned to the ledger of 2 respective legal entities. This works fine in journal transactions level as we expect where user of specific legal entity can see their applicable values. But the problem is in the master data level (vendor, customer, workers, fixed assets) where user can see all dimension values while defaulting the dimension values for master record. We don't want users to select wrong dimension values which may actually belongs to other legal entity while creating master record as well.

Is there any way to hide dimension value which is not applicable to specific legal entity in master data level as well ?

    Hi Khalidthaha8,

This is not working the way you expect. All dimension values are global. You can only set some company specific values when you change the 'Select the level of dimension value to display'. One of the settings is 'Suspended'. You can set suspended on a global level or company specific. That is the purpose of this parameter field.

It is correct that the form opens on the 'Shared' view.

You can use account structures and link to the Ledger to be able to specify allowed values. If you have e.g. 2 legal entities, you can create different account structures with the same dimensions, but other values which are allowed.

Another way is suspending the dimension value for all other legal entities. This last way is a bit more cumbersome to maintain.
