System Message 6934

Posted on by 1,270

Hi,

I  customized the possible values list for the vendor id field in the vendor maintenance screen so that it defaults to vendor name instead of vendor id.

This was successfully done.  However, on calling up the vendor id in the screen I keep getting a system message 6934 "attempting to set text control to an invalid value. Value violates the mask specification.

Could anyone point me in the correct direction to resolve this issue?

Any  assistance will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

    Thanks for the response Mark.

Oh did not know that this cannot be done but certainly it would be nice to have the flexibility to change the default.

    Thanks again.

Yeah, you can't really do what you are trying to accomplish.  When you select a record from a PV, it wants to populate the key field in the screen (in your case VendID) with the value of the first column returned in the PV (in your case Vendor Name).  That value does not match the expected value or mask of the VendID field.

If you are using SL 2015 or higher, you can change the field you want to filter to be the Vendor Name manually, then search on it.  But you cannot successfully change the column order to have anything other than the key field in the PV to be the first column.

If there is a way to set a different field to default as the filter field, I'm not aware of it.  Would be nice to learn if possible though.
