Hi all

I am trying to get my head around deploying the AX client using Group Policies, following this technet article: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh378078.aspx.

Unfortunately it breaks halfway through the installation with error 1001.

I have no problems installing manually or silent using a parameter file.

AX is version 2012R2 CU7

Snip from logfile:

Anyone able to shed some light?

Regards
Allan

    Hi

    Thanks for your answer.

    I do not have partner access, but my vendor can propably help me out.

    The other link seems to be a somewhat different approach, but it looks promising. I will look into that.

    Hi Allan,

    I was struggling with GPO deployments for the last 3 days until I found out what the difference is in between running the installation manual and via GPO.

    When you run the installation via setup.exe, the setup will check the prerequisites and install them if necessary. When you install the client via msi, it only installs the client and not the prerequisites resulting in the meaningfull 1001 errors.

    These are the prerequisites for the AX Client (I'm using AX 2012 R2 CU 1):

    • Microsoft Chart Controls for Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5
    • Microsoft Open XML SDL for Microsoft Office
    • Microsoft Report Viewer 2010
    • Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package (x64)
    • Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86)
    • Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable (x64)
    • Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable (x86)
    • Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Tools for the Microsoft Office System
    • Microsoft Windows Identity Foundation

    I succeeded in installing each prerequisite via GPO except for the "Microsoft Windows Identity Foundation" which is an ".msu" file which isn't possible to install via GPO. This prerequisite was added to the base image of our pc's.

    If you have these prerequisites installed, you can create a GPO for the AX client by using the "ClientOba64.msi".

    Also note that public properties for MSIs should be uppercase.

    Greets,

    Geert

    Hi Geert!

    Thanks a lot for this info. Will try this in the morning.
