Dimension Code Combination Error in non customized R3 posting profile

Function DimensionStorage.setSegment has been incorrectly called.
Unable to find a unique Dimension code combination record corresponding to the entered values

Can anyone help figure out this error?

I get this error when trying to create posting profiles for item groups in standard R3 Form, no customizations to this form. When you try to add the main account it shows the accounts and lets you choose one, then it errors......this occurs in a basic blank configuration environment where no transactions exist.

I have imported master data using DIXF and excel add in but only items and related master data....not COA. I have tested out these master data imports on multiple environments with no issues.

I have a test environment that this does not happen in and there are no glaring differences to account structure or dimensions, in fact this working test environment (where the error does not occur) was built by using the configuration environment database as a baseline (the error does occur in the configuration env).  Also this may have occurred before when the customer tried to setup categories but they don't recall what the fix was.

My next step is to do a data sync and then full compile.....I didn't have to do that in the other environments as DIXF entity tables get synced automatically I think....what am I missing here?

Check if you have account structures: GL/Setup/Chart of accounts/Configure account structures.

Update: It seems this is caused by an incorrect financial dimension set.....in AX client form it looks fine, but if you look at the DimensionHierarchyLevel table I notice there is a record missing....in my other environments there is a record called SystemGeneratedHierarchyDefault and it doesn't exist in this CONFIG......

It seems that there is a default financial dimension set that is created automatically be AX called Main Account....If you delete that one and add your own, and call it the same name then AX does not generate the proper records in DimensionHierarchyLevel table....

I found a post that describes the architecture and evolution of this feature and it was very helpful....blogs.msdn.com/.../planning-your-chart-of-accounts-in-ax-2012-part-7-of-7.aspx

If you then initialize the balance of this new Main Account (after deleting the system generated 1) then you will have major issues with Trial Balance, Posting profiles, etc...because you do not have a proper financial dimension set for those dimension combinations

So........do not delete the Financial Dimension Set that comes out of the box, you will regret it.......

if you do, then just delete it again and restart AOS, AX will regenerate a proper one and your done.......I will update with the results after I put this fix in
