How do I stop creating Financial Dimensions for an entity backed dimension if we want to stop using the dimension altogether?

The business has decided they no longer want a Fixed Asset financial dimension and looking to get rid of the dimension as an option for transactions. We know how to achieve this on the account structure but how do we disable the auto creation of the dimension value whenever a fixed asset is created?

Hi Jessica Wells,

If you have already removed or decided to remove FA financial dimension from account structure then why exactly you want to disable auto creation of dimension value, I didn't fully understand this point. Can you please clarify that?

Hi Jessica,

If the financial dimension is an entity backed dimension then you cannot stop it from creating new findim values as you create entities (fixed assets in your case).

A workaround is restricting your account structures by saying - as an example - that only findims 'FA123 to FA999' are valid selections.

This does not stop people from selecting other findims such as FA1000 once it is created but it does not allow them posting.

Hi ,

As Ludwig mentioned, you will not be able to stop auto creation of Financial dimension values for entity backed dimension and you will only able to remove the financial dimension from Account Structure.

Thank you for the quick reply. Our hope is that by removing it from the account structure we then improve performance. We hoped to go one step further to eliminate the dimensions from even being created to further reduce performance issues. Are you aware of there being a hit to performance if these values are created in the table but never used on transactions?
