Rotate SSL certificate for cloud hosted VM manually?

Hi All,
 
SSL certificate has expired and due to project constraints, we are unable to rotate certificate it from LCS. Can I rotate SSL certificate locally from the cloud hosted VM? If so, could you please help me with the steps.
 
I do see this blog for VHD but not sure if I can try the same for Cloud hosted VM - Rotate the expired or nearly expired certificates on your downloadable VHD - Microsoft Dynamics 365 Blog
