You are trying to upgrade to Microsoft Dynamics GP Build: 16.00.0552(GP 2016 R2) from 2019 year-end for GP 2015. I believe you can do this directly just as you upgraded to GP2015 RTM. While you are at it you should upgrade to 16.00.0716. This will get you ready to upgrade to GP 18.2.

    Hey Richard,

That's what I want to know that how Can I upgrade 16.00.0716 as when I install GP2016 R2 on my server it's getting product version error during running GP utilities. I am also installing upgrades paths for 2016.

Please guide me in easy way.

Year-end updates need to be upgraded to year-end updates, So if you applied the year-end to GP 2015 you will need to keep applying patches to GP 2016 R2 until you find a match..Try applying 16.00.0814 2019 year-end update to GP 2016.

You already have GP2015 R2 14.00.1230 installed. I would be quite confident that if you installed GP 2016 16.00.0814 you will be able to upgrade successfully. After you unzip the GP 2016 R2 media drop the MicrosoftDynamicsGP16-KB4536494-ENU.msp into the updates sub folder and it will be included when you run the installation program. That should be all you need to do. When you create your installation package file it will be included as well.

    Hey Richard,

    Good Day.

I still facing errors during upgrade see the below steps which I have performed.

    1) First I tried to install separately GP 2016 16.00.0814 patch and that is showing below error:

"The upgrade patch cannot be installed by the windows installer service because

the program to be upgraded may be missing or the upgrade patch may update

a different version of the program. Verify that the program to be upgraded exist

on your computer and that you have the correct upgrade patch"

    2) Then I drop the GP 2016 16.00.0814 into the updates sub folder then I run the installation program and its

successfully installed but when I run GP utilities to update the database that is showing below error.

"Error message when you access Microsoft Dynamics GP Utilities: "There was a

problem ascertaining product version information. Microsoft Dynamics GP Utilities

will now exit. Check DUinstall.log for more information"

Note: I renamed the GP2015 R2 installed folder name as Microsoft Dynamics _Old then I choose the

same directory to install the GP 2016 R2.

    Thanks

Something is being done out of sequence here.

Step 1) You have GP 2015 14.00.1230 installed

    Step 2) You install GP 2016 R2

Step 3) You apply service pack to GP 2016 to bring it up to 16.00.0814

Step 4) There is no need to rename the old GP 2015 folder.

Step 5) Now be careful here, you will have two versions of GP installed now and they will both look the same.

Step 6) Make sure you are starting GP 2016 Utilities. Look at the GP banner as it starts.Plus look at the service pack level as GP starts. Make sure it is 16.00.0814.

If the problem persists paste the contents of the DUINSTALL.LOG file. You will find it in your Data sub folder under C:\Microsoft Dynamics\GP 2016 folder.
