How do I set up the default purchase lead time for a vendor in AX 2009?
If I use trade agreements do I have to specify lead time for every item?

There is no standard vendor lead time, a vendor can supply items that vary from 1 day to 1 year, it is the item that drives it, so yes if you want a vendor lead time it is driven from the trade agreements from a vendor-item perspective, or you have the standard item purchase lead time for all vendors.

MSDN says: "You can set up purchase lead times on a vendor, a vendor trade agreement, an item's coverage settings, or an item".
The "on a vendor" part lead me to believe that there is a setup for vendor lead time.
I am wrong a lot more often than TechNet but I am not sure it exists, and having looked I cannot see anything, so it could be a localization. Happy to be shown where it is!

That post relates to AX2012 R2, you are asking about AX2009 and I am pretty certain it does not exist in AX2009.
You will also note that then in the part below it lists the three options of where to set them, but not the vendor path, just the path for the other three elements listed, which makes me believe it is an error in the text.
