Witholding Tax in New Zealand

Hi

Can anyone tell me how to set-up and use the Witholding Tax functionality in New Zealand? I can only find reference on MSDN to the Australian localisation it is not even listed as a New Zealand localisation. I cannot use it the way it is designed for Australia as that appears to be triggered by the absence of an ABN and we don't use them so no Vendor would have one.

Cheers

    Dear Moose,

    Please take my apologies if my message offended you in some manner.

    We are here well aware that you live in a different country than Australia :-). We have also quite a good understanding about the fact that in general there are plenty different country specific legislation differences (as we also have with many other countries). E.g., I live in Russia which localization is one of the biggest in the world (similar to Brazil and India). For the other countries of ex-Soviet Union, we do not have official localization, however for most of them we use Russian localization as a basis, with additional customizations, done by partners. It is because they are close to Russia and anyway we have many similarities.

    This is why I was a kind of defending Microsoft in the relation that it is very difficult to provide full scale localization for each and every country. You cannot deny that, regardless the fact NZ and Australia are different countries, they anyway have similarities that (might?) allow to use common modules.

    As for the Withholding Tax, I just assumed that the principles of the accounting calculation of that tax (might?) be similar in both countries, as well as for the other countries, and the difference might be in the rates and needed printforms of reports.

    Ha yes I'm not convinced Microsoft know we are a separate country!

    Interestingly, when I select the New Zealand local functionality links at https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh941882(v=nav.90).aspx they all point to Australian local functionality descriptions.  Perhaps the New Zealand local functionality links are not setup properly on the website?

    I am well aware there is a NZ Localisation but Witholding Tax is not listed in the NZ localisation list.  In my original question I clearly stated that I had found the Australian Localisation so providing a link to that is not helpful.  As to your doubts as to the differences between New Zealand tax law and Australian, I can assure you as an Accountant based in New Zealand I oddly enough know the differences and there are plenty.  We are a completely separate country - perhaps you were not aware of that?

    There is an official localization of NAV for New Zealand, provided by Microsoft, however I do not have clues to which extent it covers all specific legislation requirements. Might be the case that some functionality is missing. But, speaking about the WHT, I have doubts that your principles are very much different from Australian (and some others) in general - you might have different rates, but this is a matter of setup. But, again, I might be mistaken. However, you can refer to this How-to, perhaps it might guide you to understand how WHT calculations work in NAV in general:

    msdn.microsoft.com/.../hh934953(v=nav.90).aspx

    msdn.microsoft.com/.../hh937841(v=nav.90).aspx

    Then, there are two options:

    - using the functionality available try to make such setup and postings that would result in needed transactions; for that purpose, you should perfectly understand what you need as a result, and then also understand how the system works; you can consult the local Partner who has knowledge of the local requirements and functionality;

    - address this issue directly to the local partner; you can try searching for the local partner on PinPoint (http://pinpoint.microsoft.com)

    Good luck with you issue!

    Thanks but that's just a list of fields in the table, with no explanation, no help at all. I have done all of that but I can't work out what triggers the WHT to be calculated and my set up doesn't do anything, (as in doesn't withhold any tax) I am looking for how it works as the tax law here is not the same as Australia. Nice to see Microsoft lists New Zealand under Australia - maybe they should buy a map!
