Setting InitValues Without Developer License - NAV 2009

I have a number of pages in NAV that have fields which default to specific values. These values need to be changed in the dropdown list each and every time the page is used. I do not have access to the code of the pages to set the InitValue of these fields.

I was wondering if there was another way in which I could set these values without going into the code. We also have Classic client.

Net Change is the default value on this page. I would like to change it to Balance at Date instead.

This is just one example, there are many pages like this with an incorrect default initvalue.

    Edward,

Unfortunately if you don't have license to modify objects then you cannot change those, normally the option field defaults to how they are setup in the OptionString property of the variable or field.

In your example it is a variable and that variable OptionString property is declared as Net Change,Balance at Date. so it always take first value unless you add code to assign to second value.

I did try to change the OptionCaption order so that Net Change was second but this seemed to have no effect on how the page loaded.

OptionString.pngNot OptionCaption is what it shows, you should change OptionString for that variable.

    Hello Edward,

Many of our clients have this issue, because they want to set most used option type as the default option. However there is no way that end user can do the modification because it required a developer license. To do a any change that affect to a Microsoft Dynamics NAV objects required to have a Developer license.

Addition to that I personally (my view point) do not recommend you to change the option string of a option field even if you have the developer license.

Because there might be cases Microsoft Dynamics NAV code refer to the string order of the option string. So in this case when you change the order system might face issues in long run.

Therefore it is not a good option (as per my view) to perform even if you have a developer license.
