Force Update of Dynamics 365 Guides HoloLens 2 Application

What settings or controls are available in Intune or other services that can allow administrators to force updates to Dynamics 365 Guides on the HoloLens 2 so that the application stays up to date without end users needing to take action and pull updates themselves?

I have looked through the documentation for Intune MAM and do not see Dynamics 365 Guides listed as a supported application and I don't see a way to do this at this time. I also have not seen any information in the documentation about best practices to ensure that the HoloLens 2 version of Dynamics 365 Guides stays up to date. Is this documentation provided somewhere?

I have the same question (0)

    Hi Andrew,

We don't have Intune-specific documentation, but I will check with the team for any potential guidance. In the meantime:

Any progress on this David? We have looked through the documentation. There is no explanation for how to deploy Guides via Intune. The links you provided only mention how to update it via the store, which requires the user to manually check the store, or rely on whenever the store manages to update the application itself.

Your links provide information on how to update LOB apps via Intune on HoloLens. Guides is not a custom LOB application to my knowledge.

For guides specifically it says the following:

"How to update Dynamics 365 Guides (and other store apps)

Dynamics 365 Guides is an In-Box app, and can be updated through the Microsoft Store app. For all apps that are downloaded through the Microsoft Store, they can be updated through the Microsoft Store app itself manually."

Then it goes on to explain how to update custom Line of Business applications.

If we were to even try to manage Guides via Intune on the Hololens we would also need the link to Guides on the Windows Store for hololens and to do that we need a web link to Guides for HoloLens on the Windows Store. This link doesn't appear to be available, the only link we can find is the Guides Desktop Application. Guides for HoloLens appears to only show up when you are in the HoloLens and looking at the windows store. We cannot see a way to get a web link from the HoloLens store listings.

    Hi Francisco,

Thank you for this link. This just explains what is included in the newest update for Guides. What I am asking about is how to push Guides Updates to HoloLens devices without needing to involve my users and without needing to depend on the store to manually update the application. Intune claims that it allows Mobile Application Management and I am trying to understand if Guides is capable of being managed in this way. So far it seems that this is not the case, but I have yet to get a clear and definitive answer regarding this.

I know that I can check what applications are installed on devices in the Hololens. I know that I can also install and update custom applications via the Line of Business features in Intune. But I cannot find anything documenting whether this is possible with Microsoft's Guides application.

Okay... I don't quite understand why wouldn't the hololens devices get auto-updated prompt, when updating the guides.

    Thanks for the note.

NOTE: Did you check Microsoft defender settings? Have you tried filing a support case at Microsoft? Health status check?
