How to give a user access to records of multiple Business Units that are not under the same Parent?

Posted on by 166
Hello,

I have created the 13 Business Units shown below in Dynamics with the Parent-Child hierarchy between them being as shown in the diagram.
Ex: Company A is the Parent Business Unit of Business Units: Company B, Company C, Company D, and Company B is the Parent Business Unit of Business Units: Company B - UAE, Company B - Cyprus, etc.

//

User 1 is assigned Business Unit Company B and hence has CRUD rights on records of its child BUs: Company B - UAE, Company B - Cyprusand Company B - KSA, but does not see records of the child Business Units under Company C and Company D.

The problem is:

1) User 2: Is assigned BU Company C, and hence should have CRUD rights on records of all its child BUs, but User 2 is also the Manager of Company D - Lebanon and should also have CRUD rights on its records. I cannot assign 2 Business Units to a single User.

2) User 3: Is an Area Manager over UAE, so this User should have CRUD rights on records of the child Business Units: Company B - UAE, and Company C - UAE. Again, I cannot assign 2 Business Units to a single user.

Is there a way to solve this issue regarding Users 2 & 3? I need to give them access to multiple BUs that are not under the same parent BU. I have been stuck on this and I would highly appreciate any help regarding this issue.

    The matrix data access structure is what you're looking for here. While you will still have to assign a primary business unit to the user, you can assign security roles from more than one business unit to the same user which will enable them to work across business units.

    In this case you would assign a security role from Company C and Company D - Lebanon to User 2, and a security role from Company B - UAE and Company C - UAE to User 3.
