Intermittent Connection errors when launching MMR

We're having very frustrating intermittent error in Management Reporter:

A connection to the server could not be established.  Check the server address and try again 

OR

Can't connect to the Management Reporter Server. Do you want to specify a different server address?

MMR Version: 2.12.16003.25

Dynamics GP 18.4.1384

We have to wait a bit at the workstations and keep testing,  it is totally random.  It may take 3 minutes or 10 minutes or maybe even all day for the error to surface, but again nothing consistent.  And, I've been randomly trying to get the error on a workstation that had the error at around 2pm and I haven't gotten an error. 

Once it connects and we're working it may randomly return the same error when generating a report.

We've checked out the obvious:

-Mismatched version between Client & Server

-User Permissions

-Date and Time Zone of clients are with 5min of the server

-MMR Services Login is a service account with Admin rights

-MMR uses port 4712 and we have set up an MMR Inbound Rule

-The Event Viewer doesn't show MMR errors at all

-Service has been stopped and restarted

-Firewall is off

 

It's  the hardest problem to troubleshoot because it's so random.  Please let me know if anyone else has had the same problem!

    It sounds like you've covered most of it, but this blog has most of our causes/resolutions for this connection error and MR:

    It may also be worth updating to the most recent release of MR, which is 2.12.16013.0, as I saw you mention you are currently on 2.12.16003.25 for MR and Dynamics GP 18.4.

    Connectivity issues are some of the toughest to troubleshoot, especially when they're completely random as well.

    When this issue does occur, verify whether there is anything written to Event Viewer logs on the MR servers and/or SQL server, as well as to the service logs for MR in the Configuration Console.

    Also, when users see these connection errors with MR, do any users also see connection errors with Dynamics GP also, or no?
