Workstructure breakdown - how to export list including categories.

I can simply export the project activities into excel, however I cannot see how to also include the project categories.

Is there such a report? One that exports to excel the project activities AND categories?

Thanks,

Justin

    Hi Justin,

Do you need a separate export of activities and categories or the default category per activity?

Am hoping for an export of the categories; ideally with the activities in the same worksheet and in a nice format :D

    Hello Justin,

For what reason do you need this export?

Do you want to change and update the WBS from Excel, do some checks or something else?

Would be great if you could clarify.

    Many thanks and best regards,

    Ludwig

!! It's possible to import a WBS for a project? That would be so helpful to know as well!

The purpose is to have a listing of all the activities and categories in a single listing within excel. This listing is just for information sharing.

To be able to import the WBS would also be helpful.

    Thanks,

    Justin

Is there a specific (online) resource for learning about Query and "Excel Addin" in this context?

    Those too sound interesting.

    To provide a bit more detail of how we're using the project module;

    presume the "project" is to build a house.  For the WBS we set it up as follows;

    Project Name: build house A

    Project number: 000123

    WBS Activity name: Garage

    WBS Activity number: 000123-1000

    WBS Category name: Wood

    WBS Category number: 1500

We have the category "linked" to the appropriate GL account.

So if preparing a Journal entry for use of wood to build garage for house A, we use "Project coding"; in this case would be "expended to" 000123-1000-1500 (in AX is entered as project 000123, Activity 000123-1000, Category 1500)

Am looking to export a listing of all activities and the categories associated with those activities.

    Hello nitsuj,

I do not think that you need an excel export to analyse the data that you recorded.

Once you have entered all planned values in your WBS and recorded some actual project transactions, all you need to do is navigating to the project control tab and opening the tracking views.

They give you a detailed view on the transactions, the actual and budgeted costs, deviations, etc.

Here is a screenprint from D365FO. In AX2012 things look almost identical

If the tracking views are not sufficient then there is also the project accounting cube available that gives you even more insights into your project transactions.

    Please see: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamicsax-2012/appuser-itpro/project-accounting-cube-projcube-for-microsoft-dynamics-ax-2012-and-microsoft-dynamics-ax-2012-feature-pack

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

If you work in Project, you can manage it and embed it in the excel sheets through tasks. you need to select the document export and then your project will be displayed in the downloads
The hardest part is logistics and how to build it correctly. Part of it depends on the delivery of all the components. I used to work for a company that produced doors for houses, they often couldn't get hinges and bolts, and deliveries were cut. When I ordered garage door repair I was immediately given a plan - ordering materials, repair and cost. Timeline of a couple of days... I was shocked at how important it is to give the customer what they want. and fast
