AX query not showing in VS query list

Hello. I created a simple AX query in the AOT, but when I'm in Visual Studio and under the dataset node of a report, I'm not able to see the AX query in the listing for that dataset. I'm able to see the query on the Application explorer panel in VS but when I go to select the query under the dataset node it's not listed as an option. I've tried refreshes and restores in VS and AX with no help. Thanks very much!

This occurs when some error exists in Query, possible you relate wrong column of table to wrong column of joined table or you did not save the query, red highlighted line under the Query name indicate that changes are not saved. You have to compile the query by right clicking on it to find what wrong in it. If this problem remains then possible Incremental CIL did not generated from long time at your machine. You have to compile AOT and resolve possible errors. then generate Increment CIL..

Hi Ali. I tried recompiling, running the incremental CIL, restore. Nothing seemed to have worked.

I also created a job to run the query and write the records out to the infolog with a count, and the query seems to be fine. I modified the query to only use a single table with a very simple range. I ran the job again and the query is working as anticipated. Again, within VS I can see the query under the Application explorer. It's just when I go to set the query on the dataset I'm not able to see the query on the list.

Any additional thoughts would be appreciated. Thank you!

    Hi,

Do you have multiple AOSes installed on the same machine?

Hi KBANH. Possible then you select wrong data Source type while creating DataSet in Report. when you add source for DataSet please varify that you select the AX Query in data source provider.

Dolee, no the there are not multiple AOS instances running on the same VM.

Ali, I've double-checked the source settings several times. Data source = Dynamics AX; Data source type = Query. I can see custom AX Queries which were built for other functions, just not the one I recently developed. Thanks.

    Hi,

do you have correct WSDL port setup and actual WCF config in Business Connector configuration?

    Regards,

    Vasily

Hi Vasily, I discovered what my issue was.

My development environment is not static so I use configuration files to connect to different instances. Although I was using the correct AXC file to connect me to my testing environment in VS (because I was able to see my query in the Application explorer panel), I didn't realize the dataset was picking up on the default configuration of my development environment, which was pointed to another instance. This doesn't answer all my questions but once I pointed the default config to my test environment I was able to see the my query. I'll not forget this lesson soon! :D

That's right, Visual Studio use Business Connector configuration from registry.
