RSAT automation limitations? How is customization handled?

Hi

my company is working on a project using F&O, using as much out-of-box functionality as possible.

With this approach in mind we are also keen to use MS tools for automated testing, namely RSAT.

I'm struggling to find pros and cons for this approach and wonder what experiences people have had please? How does the tool handle customizations? Does it scale well? What is maintenance like?

I'm particularly interested in customizations as it doesn't seem to be possible to edit recordings at a low level but I would hope it would 'just work'...

Many thanks

Dan

    Hi  Dan,

for customizations will be same, because via test case, the script will be recorded on the file, then the simulator just follow the script so the standard feature and customizations will be same.

more details you can ref. below document.:

Thank you for for your reply and we have made a start with the tool, making use of MS tutorials like the one above. So far so good!

Hi Dan... I am in the same situation as you were few months ago... as you have already started using RSAT I wanted to check what are your views ? Are there limitations you found so far ? Will it be better choice to use RSAT or to use other tools like selenium and build it from scratch...

    Hi Dan

I just did a POC with RSAT. it work pretty well. I'm also trying Executive Automats but that's close to $20k per year. The one big downside (beside cost) is that you can't use the recordings as task guides

There are a lot of weaknesses in RSAT, biggest are the tests are not too re-usable (see community.dynamics.com/.../bpm-and-reusable-tests)

I'd love to find others whoi really want to work with Task Recorder and RSAT and get some discussion/collaboration going

Regarding customizations, if you can do it in the UI, RSSAT will work

RSAT will be WAY quicker than Selenium. I've never found Selenium's task recorder to be any good. you spend way to much time trying to find handles to objects. one of the biggest drawbacks in task record is that you have to type values in choice lists (as the tests will break if the list changes and you select)
