increase string size of Description from 60 Char to 300

hi all

i need help

our customer need to increase field size from 60 Char to 300 Char

any one can give me steps please

Check with data type the field uses. If the same EDT is used by other fields, you don't want to change this EDT, because it would impact other fields than you want. In such a situation, create a new EDT, use the same Label and HelpText as before, set StringSize = 300 and then update data type of the field. Also, review all places where the field is copied to some other field, because if the target field is too short, some information would get lost.

By the way, I think that such a long description doesn't make a good sense, therefore I would ask the client why they need it. There is a good chance that they misuse the field for something else and they need somebody to help them with the right architecture.

Hi Ekrami Sedhom,

This is dev task, you need to change stringsize property on this field, however, you also need to update all other places where data from this filed is used because it would be trim otherwise.

Dear Martin Thank you for you fast reply can u help me with the name of this field in AOT in my example

this customer needs . he will type description in Arabic language in this case he need too much char

Right-click the field, open personalization and take a look. I would have to start my VM with AX 2012, find which form is shown in your picture and then do the same procedure. The field name is what you should have given us, not the other way around.

Hi,

In AOT go to data dictionary and select Extended Data type and search JournalDescription or Description and change the string size to 300. If the description is changed all the description field throughout the AX will be changed to 300. For journal only change JournalDescription.
