Fixed Asset Statistics > Depreciable Basis field

Posted on by 126
Hi,

Does anyone understand the logic of this field, in particular why it does not adjust when you post a write down.

For example, we have an asset purchased at $30million, with a write-down of $5million and a salvage value of $10million, the Depreciable Basis field will show $20 million (Purchase less Salvage value) as opposed to $15 million (Purchase less write-down less Salvage Value)

It still calculates depreciation based on the correct amount of $15million, but I am just wondering why the Depreciable Basis field shows $20 million.

Thanks,
sean

Its because of a setup. The Depreciable Basis field is a FlowField, if we click on it we can see the filters applied when this field is being calculated:

We can see that only FA Ledger Entries that have Part of Depreciable Basis equal to yes will be part of the Depreciable Basis:

If you go to the Fixed Asset Setup Page, and select FA Posting Type Setup, you can see that Write-Down entries is most probably setup in your company to not be included as part of the depreciable basis. If you want it to be, put a check mark in there.
