Impossible to change Fields Type once created

Hello,

Once I create a new field and need to make some adjustments later on, Dynamics isn't letting me do it. In this case, I would need to change the Data Type and Field Type to Multiple vs Single.

Could someone please assist me? What would I need to do to open these fields to changes. Thank you!

You can’t change the data type of a field once it’s created. You would need to delete the field and create a new field.

    Hi,

According to your screenshot, the notes for an account can be created directly in the following location so you don’t need to create a custom field.

     ...

It also allows to add attachment into the note.

     ...

To know more about Note, please refer to:

annotation EntityType (Microsoft.Dynamics.CRM) | Microsoft Docs

If this helped you, I'd appreciate it if you'd mark this as a Verified Answer, which may in turn help others as well.

    Best Regards,

    Nya

There is no way to change the data type or a field type once it is created.

You cannot do this as Dynamics CRM does not allow to change the field datatype  after field creation. The recommended solution is to create a new field.

    Hi,

In addition to Dian's answer, I understand sometimes we need to fix the model, and the data type has to be fixed.

For this, following approach can be used:

    • Create a new field of desired data type.
    • Create a workflow or a console app to copy the value from the original column to the new one.
    • Remove dependencies of original field (forms, views, processes, etc.).
    • Then delete the original column.

    Hi,

You can use Attribute Manager plugin in xrmtoolbox to change field data type
