Help me I feel like an idiot!

I just read a post on the Dynamics AX Newgroup that the newsgroup will be discontinued and using the forums is the path to the future.  Fine with me, except.....I can't figure out how to search this forum.  The only search I see is in the upper right hand corner and when I use it, I get results from all forums.  Where, o where is the tool I use to search the AX forum?

 Thanks!

LJ

Thanks for reaching out to us on the community forums. Unfortunately that is the only search we have available today on the community forums. The good news is we are currently working on the next version of the Microsoft Dynamics community and we have made a big investment on improving the search capabilities based off of the feedback that the community has provided to us. I would recommend keeping your search terms as precise as possible to reduce the # of results pulling back. This may still not provide you with the results you were hoping for unfortunately. We apologize for any inconvenience and we hope the new search will exceed your expectations. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Nice to hear. A big plus would also be if you can categorize the forum posts like in the product suggestion tool.

    eBayt.com,
Thanks for the suggestion. I want to make sure I am looking at the same feature set that you are recommending. Could you provide me with repo steps in the product suggestion tool just to make sure we a are looking at the exact same thing.

I can provide some insight into the new search features which might cover the functionality you are referencing. With the next release you will be able to search by everything, forums only, blogs only, people only. Within these option you will also be able to sort by most relevant, highest rated, most recent, alphabetical and date range. We hope these new features will be able to help with discoverability of the correct information on the community site.

    I would recommend next:

    1. You can add in a subcategory in the AX forum so that the search is limited and users can post more direct into a category like: accounts receivable, accounts paymable. inventory management --> and then even some subcategories..

    2. If those categories would be covered by the expertise of the MS Development team that would be outstanding. Issues not resolved by the community can than we backuped by a couple of hours per week by the developers of AX or other solution. In this way they get also more appropiate and guided feedback where users encounter problems and where more help or functionality is needed.

    3. Also that a search does not include all the same forum posts (for intsance if they all match the subject, you will see a list, instead of various results. For instance searching on 'idiot' should not list this post 10 times, but only once and other posts about it.

    4. A status if the post has been fixed, pending, resolved etc.

    5. A status of the type: bug, help, informative.

     Thankx,

    J.

     @NickHoban,

I have a question:  Will we still be able to search the newsgroup somehow when MS takes it down?  I find a bunch of valuable info there almost on a daily basis and it would be horrible if we were not able to search it....

    1. We have tried this in the roletailored communities and they have proven unsuccessful. Reason being once we make a forum this granular we narrow down the number of people who can contribute in that forum. This creates a very inactive forum.

    2. We are working on getting more MS teams involved within the community.

    3. This issue will also be resolved with the new search. The search will only show one result in the search per thread. We also removed the Re.Re.Re.Re in the title to remove clutter.

    4. With the new forum search we have 4 different status indicators: Unanswered, Suggested Answer, Verified Answer and Discussion

    5. We don't have these option because the community forums is not a product suggestion tool. Community members want to know how to resolve their questions and we feel the four options we have selected to use will serve that purpose to give user an understanding around the status of the question.

Closer to the release date we will be highlighting all the new features coming out with the new release. The final release date has not been confirmed yet, so when that has been finalized I will be notifying the community.

    Bob,
To my knowledge the newsgroups will be achieved and still searchable but read only.  If I learn something new around that I will let you know.

We gave  MVP Mariano Gomez a preview of the new site during Convergence Atlanta and here's his comments about the future site.

"The new Microsoft Dynamics GP Community forum. I had a first-hand demonstration of the new and improved Community forum during Convergence 2010 (more on this in a future article) and I have to say that usability and ease of navigation have to be the two most shining stars in the sky for the next release. The Microsoft Dynamics GP Community forum will also sport the ability to mark responses as answers and role-based searchable content. The forum is followed by Microsoft Dynamics GP staff and Microsoft MVPs. Forums are also available for other Microsoft Dynamics products."
