Cross-linked or incorrect notes indexes in Microsoft Dynamics GP

I am having this note issue where notes are getting cross-linked into different modules like sales, inventory and purchasing. We have seen some sales order notes with also appear in the customer card notes and vice versa. This is happening to the new company I created in December 2019. I created a new company and restored the database from another company. Since then I have noticed on the new company that it is assigning NOTES ID which has already been used hence the cross-linked.

I know there had been several relevant threads posted before with this same issue. The problem is I have GP 2016 R2 and the fix that Microsoft have for this issue does not apply to my version. I was wondering if anyone has an updated SQL statement fix for GP 2016 R2 or if anyone knows where I can get a copy of the free tool from Microsoft, NOTE FIX UTILITY. I read that this is a dexterity tool with complete user interface.

Can anyone please help or maybe direct me to the proper people or department?

Looking for your response.

Thank you.

After restoring the database, did you set the NOTEINDX in DYNAMICS..SY01500 to a number greater than the one in the original company?

Do you still have the original DYNAMICS database? If so, simply retrieve the note index value from each of your companies and set the values in the new DYNAMICS database to those values. That is essentially what the NOTEINDX utility did although it would go through your company databases and retrieve the highest note index value. Hopefully you haven't entered too many new transactions. The last NOTEFIX I have is for GP2013. Any new tables since GP 2013 would not be in there to search.

    No I did not.

Since I just added a new company, I believe all of the other companies NOTEINDX are still there. How do I retrieve the highest value of NOTEINDX? Should I just get the NOTEINDX number from the company I copied from and set that number to the new company? I created the new company Dec. 19 and this is the busiest time of the year for us. Once I get the highest value of the NOTEINDX, do I just use an "UPDATE" SQL statement? Thank you for your help. Much appreciated.

Using the NOTEINDX from the original company you can run this in SSMS

UPDATE DYNAMICS..SY01500 SET NOTEINDX='Value from original company' WHERE INTERID='NEWCOMPANY INTERID'

When you created this company the NOTEINDX value was set to one and then it started going up. It would also help to look at what the current value of NOTEINDX for your copied copy in SY01500 and add this value to the value from the original company. When you are done try testing entering new notes to insure you have set the value high enough.

Finding the highest note index is a very involved task as there are hundreds of tables that have multiple noteindex values in them.

Thank you Richard. I am not too familiar with SQL statement. Should I include the zeroes in the NOTEINDX number? Like should my entry be NOTEINDX='2498577.00000'

    The zeroes are not necessary.

Good morning Richard. The solution you suggested worked. So far we haven't seen any cross-linked notes. Thank you.
