Use Custom Domain Name for CRM Online URL

I've seen a few posts about changing the Host name for a CRM 2013 Online instance.  Is it possible to change the domain name?  Our customer currently has a URL like companycrm.crm.dynamics.com, but they want to use companycrm.company.com to access CRM Online.  Is this possible?  They've already configured company.com inside of Office 365, so the domain is ready to use.

Since I haven't seen any way to do it or any posts about it, I'm guessing it can't be done, but I'd like to confirm that with someone who's tried and really knows for sure.

The best option I've come up with so far is to create a redirect page somewhere to redirect the browser from companycrm.company.com to companycrm.crm.dynamics.com, but that's not what they're asking for.

Thanks.

    Hi Alex,

It is not possible to change the online URL from companycrm.crm.dynamics.com to companycrm.company.com for CRM Online but is possible to change URL with CRM On-Premise which allows more flexibility in terms of using desired URL

Thank you for confirming this for me.  I also created a case with Office 365 CRM Online support and they confirmed the same.  It would be great if this could be documented and clarified somewhere, especially since the DNS settings page for company.com does state “Note: Your CRM Online subscription is automatically configured to work with company.com.” I think that’s for authentication, not the URL, but it does give the impression that what I want is possible.  Hopefully this feedback will get filtered to the right people and this post will help someone else with my same question.

    Thank you again.

** Is this still the case in Aug 2015?

Yes.  As far as I know this is still the case.  We're a MSFT Partner and have never seen a way to change the URL.  I believe it's partially due to the need for an SSL certificate to secure communications with CRM.  MSFT would have to implement a way for customers to upload their own certificate to secure their instance instead of using Microsoft's certificate for *.crm.dynamics.com.

** Is this still the case in December 2020??

Surely there's a way to upload our certificate by this point??

@peoute it is still the same with regards to the Dynamics 365 Online url.

Thanks for confirming. It seems especially disappointing for things that might be customer facing like event registrations.

exceptionally disappointed that after 7 years, this is still outstanding.

@peoute this is the CRM url that you cannot change (this is internal facing), the PowerApps Portal (Dynamics 365 Portal, AdxStudio Portal) and includes the Dynamics Marketing Events Portal you can and have been able to use your own registered domain for a long time.

ok - so I have a workaround.  If you have an Azure account, create a static web app with a single index.html and redirect code (<meta http-equiv="Refresh" content="0; url='yourorg.crmx.dynamics.com'" />), update your org DNS zone and you should be good to go.  Azure provisions a certificate automatically for subdomains (e.g. crm.yourorg.com)
