Tracking and Maps in Dynamics AX 2009

Hello everybody,

Can anybody give me any hints about integrating maps (i.e. Google Maps) within Dynamics AX form. I am trying to develop a Vehicle Tracking System (GPS) on my Dynamics AX server.

 Thank you,

Hosam

    It should be relatively simple.

Just use .NET and an image window in AX

    Dear Ivan,

Would you please provide me sample code?

I think there is an activex web control that you could put on a form. If I remember correctly there is a way to use code to navigate to a website. I don't have any sample code, and it might be difficult to control the map display.

please check the license information of the Goolgle/Yahoo services.  I understood they must be free non-commercial applications.

Dont' take Google that close: they want to have a free world of applications and earn billions by providing advertisements paid by everybody on the globe. With all respect: they are mixing up commercial and the free world..and even destroying particular businesses like mobile phone manufacturers, map information companies like teleatlas and Navteq. I do not see a button for business users and consumers in their browser software stating there is a difference between them on the web. Only if they can collect money they make the difference from the input side, not from the output site. It is time somebody rules out this monopolist by forcing the similar 'choose adds or non-adds browsing capabilities'.

For consumers everything is free: for business users you have to pay. Quit a strange world since intellectual property does not have the difference between the type of users on the internet. If internet is the free world of Google: so are their applications.

In the Google toolbox you can see the api, I believe if you restrict to the use of the webservices you can show the results in Google through the browser and you do not need ax. Only the correct querystring. In this way you do not integrate the application in your software (AX). Only the request on the internet.

The bing maps (which existed already many years before Google Maps and was used to test object oriented sql databases) is not working anymore, but uses the same approach as can be seen in the uncommented ax code.

    Hi Hosam,

Sounds like an interesting project! Geo targeting is really down to two key elements, latitude and longitude.

I'd personally just go and grab your fine self a MapPoint Web Service Developer Account!

MapPoint Web Service API allows you to integrate maps, driving directions and proximity searches into a wide range of solutions. This free developer account also gives you access to the MapPoint Web Service staging environment, which you can use to build applications for trial, demonstration, and proof-of-concept purposes. So go ahead—create the location-enabled application of your dreams.

    Bing Maps SDK

    http://www.microsoft.com/maps/developers/

To sign up for a Bing Maps Key, please click here

This is standard web service call outs from within your forms, so it really isn't going to take you long to be able to dominate your project from a visually appealing sense. I might add you could also substitute Bing for any map provider you like, should you wish to do so.

    @mrhassell,

Nice, I did not know the SDK was still online. I looked a few months ago (with Google search) and was not able to see any API on Bing maps. I read today that MS will launch free navigation on it Windows 7 mobile devices since their best friend Google is doing similar. Interesting. Does the Bing also allow to use for business usage or is that not done also like Google states? Or is Bing maps in MS products oke? And can the dev license be used in production also or is it restricted in some way?

If there is interest in co-development this for address lookup I volenteer to take part in coding/ architecturing it. let me know.

How did you implement your project (which service did you use)? Did you face similar problems.

Thanks in advance for any help

    Sebastian
