Purpose of customer group

Hi,

Can I know what is the purpose of customer group in AX2012? Because it is mandatory field in AX. Besides categorization in reporting, any others purpose of it?

If memory serves, it is also used for trade agreements that you can apply to those categories.

Terms of payment can be pretty important, typically one group for domestic and another for foreign at the minimum.

From the Accounts Receivable Setup:

"Create and maintain groups of customers who share key parameters for posting, settlement and payment, reporting, and forecasting in the Customer groups form."

If you are using Intercompany invoicing, you will need a custgroup for internal & external customers.

I think the most important use is the Posting Profiles, which ledger accounts will you use to know the balance for your customers. It is generally done by Customer group
