Are you not seeing (in a Publishing Portal) that specific product only or you cannot see any products at all?

Is that the demo VM or you deployed everything from scratch?

Did it work before and then stopped working or never worked?

If originally worked and then stopped working - did you apply any changes/change any configurations?

Can you see a Category Hierarchy in Publishing Portal?

The products in Publishing Portal are only displayed under its category, are you sure you selected the right category? You can check whether the category is right or not by first navigating to the Product Catalog Site Collection, then find your product (you can use that find textbox and enter there a product name or just scroll/switch pages until you see it) then click on it and look into the category.

If you go to a Publishing Portal there is a Search Box there at the top part of the page - enter the product title there and initiate a search - will your product be found?

If so far nothing above helps then one of possible cases would be an issue with Search Service, to find out that go to Central Admin->Manage service applications->Search service application (top link out of 2)

then look under "Search Application Topology" - are there any errors there?

If no errors then click "Content Sources" (on a left hand site) and look into the columns:

    a) Status - what is the value there - Idle or something else?

    b) Last crawl completed - will you see there the date you published your product from AX ?

If nothing has helped so far then click on "Crawl Log" (on left hand side) and look into the Errors column, if you see errors there click on the number and errors' details will be displayed, note that not all errors there are meaningful for eCommerce but based on what you see there you might figure out the issue.
