How to include header row to DIXF Export to DAT File?

Hii,

I am exporting customers from AX 2012 by using DIXF.

Found this article how to export customers from AX by using DIXF.
http://shafeaa.blogspot.com/2014/08/dimf-part-iexport-customers-to-dat-file.html

It exports all customers in .DAT file. I opened .DAT file in excel but Header row is not included as first row. Getting no idea which column belongs to what?

Please guide how to include first row as table header from .DAT file exported from DIXF?

Thanks,

What's the point of creating Dat file when you can directly export it to excel ? In source format choose excel or CSV and try to export using DIXF.

    Hii Sukrut Parab,

    Thank you for your reply.

To Export data from Dynamics AX the Type should be AX.

I tested export with XLS and CSV source data formats.

The exported file is .DAT always and it don't have the header.

Any Idea how to include header?

No, the stamement "To Export data from Dynamics AX the Type should be AX" is completely wrong. DIXF allow you to export data from AX to various formats. If your goal is getting data to Excel, use Excel as the target format.

Note that you said that you "tested export with XLS and CSV source data formats", but you forget to tell us with which result. If it works, use it. If it doesn't work, fix the problem. If you don't know how, explain the problem to us.

Also note that you talk about export but your screenshot is for import.

The basic purpose of Data Import/Export Framework is to Copy data between Dynamics AX instances. Export from one AX instance and import to another AX instance.

But my requirement is to Export data (Master and Translations) from Dynamics AX for another ERP System.

Is the DIXF right place? DIXF export do not include table headers (meta data) and difficult to name columns.

    or through x++ code?

    or SQL queries with joins?

    Thanks,

No, the basic purpose of Data Import/Export Framework is NOT to copy data between Dynamics AX instances. It's just on of its possible uses. It's a generic framework for exporting data to various formats and importing data from various formats. This may be used for data migration from non-AX systems, system integration, data exports for reporting, copying data between companies inside AX and so on.

DIXF is the right tool for exporting data to another ERP System, but "AX" is a wrong format. You would use it if you wanted to transfer data between AX instances, which clearly isn't your case. Use whatever format is the most suitable for the target system.

    Hii Martin,

Buy it is explained in this article, To Export data from AX the source data format Type should be AX and it only exports in .DAT file.

    docs.microsoft.com/.../walkthrough-copy-data-between-microsoft-dynamics-ax-instances-dixf-dmf

It will solve my problem if we can export to csv or excel.

    Thanks,

    Hii Martin,

Please guide us the correct way how to export data from DIXF? What mistake i am doing while exporting?

Is there good article explaining about exporting, screen shots will help the community.

    Thanks,

Yes, the article says that you should use "AX" format, but the whole article is about copying data between AX instances, which isn't what you're doing. You want to get the data to a non-AX system, not to another AX instance.

I already told in my previous reply that the mistake you're making is using a wrong format. Look at which format can be easily consumed by the other ERP and export data from AX to that format.

    Got it..

    Step 1:

Create processing group with entity and Source data format as CSV and type File.

    Generate mapping only

    Step 2:

Create another processing group with source data format type "AX"

Get staging data format type "AX"

Go to execution history -> view staging data -> Export to File

Here select the step one processing group and click Ok.

Now you can export data from AX to csv file from DIXF.

Getting one more issue...Missing rows when exporting to file..

When I run "Get staging data" for processing group with source data format type "AX"

Infolog says  ['1684' 'Customer' record(s) inserted in staging] and its correct.

I validated the staging data and it gives successful for all lines..

When I "Export to file" its exports in .txt file. I change extension to .csv and open it excel it shows only 815 records/rows.

Exported directly to .csv and even in .xlsx... every time it is exporting 815 rows. 1684 - 815 = 869 records are not exporting to file..

    What I am missing....?
