NAS jobs failing after changing Database server name

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

We maintain DB and application boxes differently. Recently we had a requirement to change the DB server name as there was a domain change. I did change the Database server name on the application server (NAS) for the jobs to pick the new DB. But the jobs are getting into error state:

 "  Application Server for Microsoft Dynamics NAV version 5.0 SP1 (Build 26084)
  Copyright (c) 1987-2008 Microsoft Corporation

  The <old DB server name> server cannot be found.
 AS JOB EXITED"

I am fairly new to NAV. Can you tell me if I am missing any other setup here?

I also restarted the Application box. But no luck.

    Actually clearing the cache seem to have helped. One other thing I tried was, I asked my colleague to login with his credentials on the services. that solved the issue.

    Have you tried reinstalling the NAS (remove completely and then reinstall)?

    I had been trying this entire day, no luck. One thing I noticed was, though my setups are correct, when I just double click on nassql.exe, I see this

    LONCISVDBSQ006B\PROD is the old server

    Do you have multiple NAS instances installed on the same machine?

    Try reinstalling the NAS service and configure the same by putting new server name. This should help you to resolve the issue.

    Changing domain name historically have been brining lot of weird unexpected issues everywhere in the network (not necessarily related to NAV as such). Try uninstalling and re-installing NAV components from scratch (always backup your data!).

    "The description for Event ID 20010 from source EUR51_P01 cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.

    If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.

    The following information was included with the event:

    The Application Server for Microsoft Dynamics NAV EUR51_P01 started with the following configuration:

     Database Server Name = <New server name>

     Database = <database>

     Company = <company name>

     Startup Parameter = jobqueue

    the message resource is present but the message is not found in the string/message table."

    I see that the configuration data is correct on the event viewer

    Do you see any message in Event Viewer?

    Setup seems correct. There is no other setup required to run the NAS.

    Try creating separate job and see if it works. Apply the NAS Setting & Restart the NAS service and see if it helps.
