
Hi ALL,
we have a production EP site which was down all of sudden and when we checked the event log , the sql service was stopped , soon after restarting the EP is up and running.
somehow i fixed the issue but was not able to find out the root cause .did any body faced this issue earlier i'm doing RCA , please let me know in what situations such issues occur and how to find the root cause of the issue which triggered it.

I have the same question (0)It can be a whole range of issues. Maybe you haven't restarted your servers for a while and something broke, maybe it was a windows update (which you should disable and do it manually on a schedule), maybe a hack attempt, or some users randomly clicking on the site got it down.
Check your Event log and SQL Server log first to have an idea (before the Current log entry, since that contains details only since last startup, so you want the one before the restart). That should help to figure out what has happened.
Do you use System Center Operations Manager or something similar to monitor health state of your environments? (You should from now on) That could reveal potential problems with resource over-utilization, disk getting full, application misbehaving / crashing and so on.
