Fixed assets in status Closed, cannot be Sold/Scrapped?

Hi,

In AX 2009, we were able to sell a FA that was in status closed, but it does not seem to work in AX 2012. Was this changed? Or was it a bug in 2009?

Work around is obviously to set it to "open" and then sell it, but curious if it's by design or if we're missing a parameter somewhere.

AX 2012 R3 CU10

    Hi Björn Wallmark,

I double checked that behavior in my R3 demo machine and could sell the fixed asset whose value models had a closed or suspended status.

What error message do you receive when you try to sell the fixed asset?

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

    Hi Ludwig,

    My error message says:

Fixed asset FEQIP000014, value model LIN, has been sold or scrapped.

    What I did was:

    1. Register master data for FEQIP000014, with a value model called LIN and 12 periods (1 year) depreciation

    2. Acquisition journal with the value 120 EUR

    3. Depreciation journal with the value of -120 EUR

The FA then have the status "closed" since it's fully depreciated

Next step is to create a Disposal - Sales journal and that's when I get the error message.

If you completely depreciate the Fixed asset and netbook value is Zero , then what is the business logic to sell the asset ?

It makes sense in our business :)

I believe AX does not allow these type of transactions as netbook value is zero , I guess the only solution is reverse the depreciation entries and pass the disposal entries.

It's also possible to open the value model again, and then sell it.

    Hi Björn Wallmark,

I followed the same steps that you followed in AX2009 and AX2012 R3Cu10 and I was able to sell the fixed asset even though all deprecations were posted and the status of the value model was closed.

Do you have any adjustments in your system?

Can you share the error message that you receive and show us the data you see in the value model?

Do you have a Contoso demo System? If so, try to replicate your issue in the Contoso demo system.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

    Hi Ludwig,

The error message I get is: Fixed asset FEQIP000014, value model LIN, has been sold or scrapped.

I have no adjustments in the system. Will compare to a Contoso setup and see what I can find. Thanks for the assistance.

    Hi Björn Wallmark,

Yeah just try to compare. If you cannot find the underlying reason, you will have to do 2-3 mouse clicks more. I would say that's acceptable and probably cheaper than programming something.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

    Hi Ludwig,

Normally if there is any netbook value, then we can sell fixed asset, but in this scenario asset value is zero ,then how can we sell FA ?

What is the financial impact at FA entries point of view.

    Please throw light on this
