Hi!

While using GP10 on Vista, I am getting a message suddently 'Microsoft Dynamics GP has stopped working' and subsequently another message 'Problem caused by Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0 This problem was caused by Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0. There is no known solution for this issue.

Does anyone experience this before? Any solution?

Regards,

Mohan

Hi, haven't seen that message before. Some things you could look at to try and narrow down the issue: (bit of a stab in the dark, these!!)

    1. Does it happen on all workstations?
    2. If you have GP installed on your server, does it happen on the server?
    3. What are you doing at the time it crashes? Printing? Could be a printer driver?
    4. Are all workstations using Vista?
    5. Is Vista service packed up?
    6. Is GP service packed up?
    7. Is MS Office service packed up?
    8. Try renaming your reports.dic (Check the dynamics.set file you are using to see where the reports.dic file is located). If the error does not happen after renaming your reports.dic...then it might have been a corrupted reports dictionary.
    9. Verify that the ODBC settings on the workstation are correct.
    10. Get IT to put a SQL trace on and see if this shows up anything, or ask them to check log files.
    11. Have you any modifications / custom software?
    12. Install a new clean version of GP on a workstation - don't install any custom products. Service pack it up to the current version and monitor its use...does the error still occur in this 'clean' enviornment?
    13. Install GP on a non Vista machine and monitor.

Post any findings. Maybe some one else has come across this issue before.

I have seen this issue with either a corrupt Dynamics dictionary, or a corrupt forms and/or reports dictionary. To try and isolate the exact issue, start by renaming your forms and reports dicionary. Go back into GP and try again. If this does not work, then most likely you have a corrupt Dynamics dictionary, in which case you will need to reinstall, for which I suggest you use the Feature Pack 1 DVD image which also include Service Pack 4.

I have also seen this issue if you do not have enough memory (RAM) in the workstation.  Typically I recommend 2Gig or more but if you have Vista you may need more.

I just ran across this same message on a new client's term server and the ultimate resolution was to change the DEP settings.  The server was running Windows Server 2008 R2.  I think Microsoft and resellers will be seeing more of this on Server 2008 R2.   DEP settings were preventing Outlook and perhaps Excel as well from running to populate the home page, so Dynamics... stopped working.

This link has more information:  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971766.   Also found the following info on of the websites we searched - sorry, don't know which one it was now!

"You can easily verify whether an application is protected by DEP by checking the DEP column of the application’s process in the Windows Task Manager. If you don’t see the Data Execution Prevention column in Task Manager, you can easily add it using the View, Select Columns Task Manager option. When you check the DEP column for the Microsoft Internet Explorer 7.0 executable (iexplore.exe) in the Task Manager, you'll notice that DEP is disabled by default. You can enable DEP protection for IE from the IE Advanced Internet Options by selecting Enable memory protection to help mitigate online attacks in the Security options. (Note that changing this property requires administrator-level permissions.) In IE 8.0, DEP protection will be enabled by default."
