Hi,

In AX 2012, there are different type of user licenses: Enterprise, functional etc. Is there any way I can find out what the license access type (Enterprise or functional) of a specific security role?

Thanks,

You can see that with the Security development tool: docs.microsoft.com/.../overview-security-development-tool-user-interface

This is a tool that you have to install separately, it's not part of the standard installation package. The installation package for Security development tool can be found from Lifecycle Services -> Downloadable tools section.

    Hi Yuji,

I would like to recommend the security development tool like suggested by Nikolaos. This tool can tell the type for standard roles, but also roles part of an add-on or custom(ized) roles.

In AX2012 R2 and R3 the type will show incorrect as the tool was written for the initial release as beta tool and was never updated. If you read my blog, you can implement code changes to view the correct license types: community.dynamics.com/.../tips-on-ax-2012-security-development-tool-part-1

Thanks everyone for your help. But how AX determine if there are enough enterprise licenses, for example, in the license if there are 150 enterprise user licenses, and it won't allow system admin to assign 151st user to system admin role?

AX doesn't determine that, it has no enforcing of the user licenses. Instead Microsoft controls the licensing by license audits.

So, in theory, if the customer only purchase 1 enterprise user license, but assign 1000 users to enterprise CAL secuiry roles, AX is still working?

Yes, but it's against the license terms.

So the customer need to run the report and compare the actual licensed user number from System Administration -> Setup -> Licensing information -> Access licenses?

Yes. Take a look at Dynamics AX 2012 licensing guide ([View:https://download.microsoft.com/download/0/D/0/0D0CFCE8-75DA-4FF4-9207-7642B3E06877/microsoft-dynamics-ax-2012-r3-licensing-guide.pdf]), Appendix III - Ensuring Accurate Licensing.
