Hi,

I was wondering if anyone could assist me regarding items that have different colors and or sizes.....

Let's say that we have an item that we order from our vendor. This item comes in different sized and colors. We want this item only to have one item number in our system with ability to choose the sizes/colors.

But our issue is that our vendor sells this item to us with different item numbers for each size and color of the item.

Example:

We are selling a dog collar with the item number: IT0001 - This item is available in 3 different sizes with three different colors.

Vendor has an item number for each size and color for this dog collar;

Dog Collar
Vendor Item Number	Size	Color
VN001	S	Blue
VN002	M	Blue
VN003	L	Blue
VN004	S	Red
VN005	M	Red
VN006	L	Red
VN007	S	Green
VN008	M	Green
VN009	L	Green

What we would want to do is have only one item number for this dog collar with attributes/variants for sizes and colors and make the inventory management know the difference regarding stock quantities. Each item has a different barcode also if that matters. We would find this easier regarding our retail stores and also when connecting this through the ecommerce platform.

What is the best way to set this up in Dynamics Nav 2016 regarding inventory management and item card if possible that is?

Hi,

As other Suggested you can go by Item Variants to maintain size/color for one Particular item No.

You can also maintain the quantity and cost for same.

What you want to do is to have only one item number for this dog collar with different attributes.

You can do this by creating the following:

1- One ITEM for the Dog Collar.

2- Multiple Variants by using "Stock Keeping Units" on the item.

3- Create "Item Variant" (System Available 1 Variant Only)

Suggested Variants as follows:

Blue Small.

Blue Medium.

Blue Large.

4- Link the "Stock Keeping Units" with the "Item Variant".

5- Cross Reference to add Vendor Item Number and Names.

You can use vendor item no. as cross reference & item variant as color & size.
