Hi all,
short version:
How do you test the sending of emails from a non-production instance, while making sure that no email is actually sent out inadvertently?
long version:
An environment that receives the database copied from PROD will have several safeguards in place - rightly so - to prevent emails going out to real recipients in the outside world: email addresses blanked out, workflows disabled, smtp server settings cleared, print management setup deleted...
But you still want to be able to test email sending, right? Be it outbound invoicing, Workflow messaging or whatever. The only way I know is to painstakingly copy manually the settings from PROD, type in my own email address on the One Customer/Worker etc. of my choosing, and hope for the best; then repeat the same procedure after the next data load from PROD.
Is there a better way?
You can define data templates in Excel.
After a DB restore. Upload all data in data management in more or less automated way. It's a common procedure to fill the data gaps with dummy data after a production database refresh.
