Refilling a Main Warehouse from Off-site Warehouses

We currently have off-site storage locations (listed in different locations in a specific off-site warehouse in AX) where we store overflow items for our main warehouse.  How do we setup AX to recognize this inventory as pickable and prompt us to transfer this to our main warehouse?

Well I guess you've noticed that when you setup an item coverage record, on the general tab you can specify a planned order type of 'Transfer' and a main warehouse. But the issue here is that you're calling the off-site storage 'overflow' so I guess you are looking for logic like "if the stock's available in the overflow warehouse, transfer, else purchase". Unfortunately, there's no way in standard Dynamics AX to setup that sort of logic in master planning, so you're going to have to customise. I'd start by thinking about a simple flag on the planned purchase order form to alert the buyers to the fact that there is stock available in the overflow warehouse, and they need to change the planned purchase order to a planned transfer order - and then maybe consider automating that step.

I have the exact same problem. We tried to set up the refill feature in the warehouse setup under Master scheduling. But it only works for situations transferring from main warehouse to off-site warehouse. I hope Microsoft can add a feature to resolve this in the future.

You can configure the system to refill a warehouse so off-site can refill main, what it cannot do is dynamically decide to refill off-site to main and then main to off-site depending upon the situation for one item. It is not dynamic reacting to any situation because global geography is against it in many arguments and how customers use it in different manners. If you have a dynamic changing set of potential refills this is where the planner comes in and the "default" of the system is overridden.
