Hi,

We are trying to figure out how to set up our items that are kits in our item master. I am wondering if anyone recommends using a BOM vs. using the retail kit functionality that I have read about? Second question - is there any way to flag an item only for use in a BOM or a Kit? And not to be sold on it's own?

It depends on how the kit will be processed in the warehouse. If the kit item is assembled and kept in inventory I would recommend using the retail kit as it is more manageable. the kit assembly order actually uses a BOM journal to assemble the kit.

Yes, I know that I can stop the individual item for sales - but if I stop the individual item for sales - will it not let me sell the top BOM item? - lets say I want to explode the sales order?

I don't know Retail Kits, so I won't answer the first part. But it is possible to put any item on Stop for Sales, using the 'Site specific order settings' or 'Default order settings' forms:
