We are upgrading to GP 2018.7 in a test environment. We have lots of companies so I'm only doing 10 at a time. Each of the first two times I performed the upgrade, Dynamics Utilities seems to have just frozen. It does not show the expected screen where I have the option to set the SOP/IVC message, add test company, upgrade Forms and Reports dictionaries, etc. Event viewer shows DynUtils but there does not appear to be any CPU utilization and only a small amount of RAM (< 40 MB). I confirmed there are no companies left to upgrade in the DYNAMICS..dulck table and the companies were successfully upgraded as I can launch GP and successfully log into one of the upgraded companies.

I thought I could just x out of the grey DynUtils screen but when I did, the attached message pops up. There is nowhere on the screen to find running processes and Task Manager doesn't even show the normal view of what I'd expect to see when I click the down arrow to the left of the application (see attached screenshot). I can end task via Task Manager with no apparent issues so I'm not stuck but I've done hundreds of upgrades and I thought I'd put this out here in case others encounter the same thing. Not sure if it's an environmental issue for me or if there is a missing line of code in the msp file. We are upgrading from 2018.6 if that matters. Thank you.
I run into this when the GP SSRS Deployed Server is different - for example, in a test environment or when upgrading. Before launching GP Utilities, I review/resolve discrepancies with SY40800 and syDeployedReports in the system database. This is especially important when doing a test upgrade where you don't want to accidentally impact the production SSRS GP reports.
you can just kill the gp utility session in task manager in that case. I have done it many times as it gets stuck after the company upgraded.
