Getting error The parameter panel layout for this report contains more parameters than total cells available.

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hi Folks,

I'm working with the SSRS report and there I have added a new parameter which is hidden so initially I get some error after deploy, so through some reference I removed the ReportParametersLayout tags in the XML document. In that case it will resolved but when I'm trying to make changes in this report and after deploying the report I'm getting the below error.

"Severity Code Description Project File Line Suppression State
Error The parameter panel layout for this report contains more parameters than total cells available.
at Microsoft.ReportingServices.Library.ReportingService2005Impl.CreateReport(String Report, String Parent, Boolean Overwrite, Byte[] Definition, Property[] Properties, Guid batchId, Warning[]& Warnings)
at Microsoft.ReportingServices.WebServer.ReportingService2005.CreateReport(String Report, String Parent, Boolean Overwrite, Byte[] Definition, Property[] Properties, Warning[]& Warnings) 0"

Please help me to resolve this issue.

This is quite possible even after removing the said tags. The report xml won't update or never update that faster on a certain change with the right cells. After every change we need to remove those tags and redeploy if any such issue happens once.

    Hello huijij.

I faced the same problem and followed your solution method, and it worked.
As you can see, I deleted this code:

    And the operation was successful.
I wanted to put my comment here so that everyone can benefit from the solution I provided.
    Thank you very much.

    Thanks Judy,

I tried the same way for removing the <ReportParametersLayout> tag, deployed it and then another error came as per below screenshot

But again I made some changes, then deploy it again and get the Parameter panel error occurs, then after removing <ReportParametersLayout> tag. It is resolved

    but I don't understand why it's happening.

So to get out of this issue, if this error persist the solution is to create a new design under the same report. Right?

    Hi Aimon,

You said "In that case it will resolved but when I'm trying to make changes in this report and after deploying the report", can you describe  what changes you made? For the error message, suggest you still check the xml file to see if the <ReportParametersLayout> <CellDefinitions> node contains a node for each parameter, if not, you can try again to remove the ReportParametersLayout tag and let it generate automatically. If that doesn't work, suggest you create a new NewDesign, copy all the objects in OldDesign and paste them into NewDesign, delete OldDesign and publish.
