Financial reporter: print conditions on result of open customer balance

For a customer I have the following requirement. In a balance sheet I need to report a credit customer open balance on the liabilities side of the balance sheet, but this should only be done when the total customer open balance is negative. In the other case it needs to reported to the assets side of the balance sheet. So I need a way to summarize the open balance per customer number and then print that amount on the assets or liabilities side depending on the result of that sum.

Is there a way to do this in financial reporter? I have experimented with the conditional print options, but this is not sufficient as this controls the print per voucher transaction and not per /customer balance/.

No is also an answer.

Thank you

    Adding the customer number as a dimension?  Probably not.  You'd have detailed debit/credit info at the transaction level, but not sure how you'd roll that up to the summary account level so you could apply your debit/credit logic to make it appear on the correct row.

    This sounds more like a Power BI report than something you can build in Financial reporter.

    The issue you will have in Financial reporter is that is does the DR/CR check based on transactions values.  Not the overall balance of a GL Account.

    Assume we add the customer number as financial dimension, would we have the possibility then?

    Thanks for the additional detail.  That's not going to work in Financial reporter because it only looks at general ledger balances and transactions, not subledger balances and transactions.  The only subledger detail that can be pulled into Financial reporter are Vendor and Customer names, as attributes.

    Financial reporter: print conditions on result of open customer balance
    Hi Frank,

    We have two lines that report customer open balances in the balance sheet, one on the asset side, one on the liabilities side.

    Assume we have following customer balances in d365:
    • Customer a: 500
    • Customer b: -50
    • Customer c: 900
    • Customer d: -150

    Then we would like to see this in the balance sheet as follows:

    Assets
    ====
    Customer open balance: 1400

    Liabilities
    ======
    Customer open balance: -200

    The point I'm struggling with is that the condition to print it in asset or liability should look to the total sum of the customer balance, not the amount per customer transaction (and thus posting on an account). For instance customer d can have 5 open transactions:
    • Invoice 1: 500
    • Invoice 2: 250
    • Credit note 3: -100
    • Invoice 4: 300
    • Credit note 5: -1100
    The sum of these amounts is -150 thus this amount should be on the liabilities side. Just allocating the credits to liabilities (-1200) and debits to assets (1050) is not sufficient for this customer.

    Couple questions:

    1. Do you want to print individual customer balances or the total of all your customer balances summarized on one row?
    2. You might be able do this with two separate rows for the same Main account and use the conditional option you've highlighted to dictate which row appears by also using the Suppress row if all zeroes.  Maybe :)
